Floris Rietman
learn dutch day 1: huis (house)

Boden
I'm learning so much already!! thank you thank you :)

Floris Rietman
no problem
telefoon (phone)

Boden
omg telefoon
though!!
it'd help if you also told me the articles associated with each noun!
unless neuter nouns are less common in dutch?

Floris Rietman
do you mean the wikipedia articles associated to the parts of the words?
or just a description

Boden
like
definite articles
like French's le and la, or German's der, die, and das

Floris Rietman
een (a), de (the), het (the)
de is when multiple words are combined, the is when it is just a normal word

Boden
so there are no gendered nouns in Dutch?

Floris Rietman
no
its all neutral (the nouns)

Boden
that's great to hear :,D
I'm used to German where
there's masculine, feminine, and neuter nouns, all with separate def. articles
it's very taxing to remember :,)

Floris Rietman
now some grammatical rules, Tropisch Woord: you hear s you write sch if it's on the end of a (dutch) word, for example: tropisch (tropic)
Achtervoegsel: you hear ugh you write ig (at the end of a word) for example: schattig (cute)
also other rule: if you hear sr at the start of a word, you write sch
the rest of the grammatical rules you probably already now but now i just did some rules that (i think) are only with dutch
now some greetings: hallo (hello), doeg (bye), hi (hi)

Boden
is hi used as often as hallo?
in German, i know "hi" is more of an adapted englishism that isn't really used all too much

Floris Rietman
yea, it is
now questions, for example: "kan (can) ik (i) een (a) aardbeien (strawberry) sundae krijgen (get)?". With questions you'll (other than with english) put the werkwoord (verb) at the end of the question and add "en", for example the last word would be if in english "geten"

Boden
is -en the infinitive ending?

Floris Rietman
yes
now some verbs again: bellen (calling), kijken (watching), reageren (reacting), eten (eating), drinken (drinking)

Floris Rietman
wolk (cloud), kussen (cushion)
if you have anything (dutch words, questions, etc.) you want to know just ask me
